I had a vision in my mind for Kylee’s shoot. I had found a dress in a thrifty store one day, a light blue Greek inspired prom dress. I thought it was really pretty and the first person I pictured wearing it in a shoot was Kylee.
The vision I had in mind was a warm day, a girl wearing the dress, walking in big open field of tall grass, glowing in sun setting golden light. Perfection.
I was excited to make my vision a reality.
I could find the tall grass…check. Sun setting light…check. Girl in the blue dress…check. Warm day… not check.
In fact, what I didn’t expect was a pile of snow to fall the night before and for the day to be freezing.
It’s Colorado, I really should have expected it, but I didn’t. Perhaps I was in denial.
Alas, the shoot went on, and it was perfect. Kylee was a trooper during the shoot, dealing with the cold, and was just simply gorgeous. Cynthia was sweet enough do to make up and stay for the whole shoot to do touch ups (you can see behind the scenes of the shoot here).
The thing I learned on the shoot was that you can have an idea of how things will go in your mind, but you must be willing to have life have a say. Many of us can hold tightly to our expectations (myself included) but the magic is in the creating. It’s in having an idea of what you want to do and then bringing it to life, and the beauty is in process.
Here are some shots from the shoot with Kylee, I hope you enjoy them.
